More About the Author:
"Lupita Almaraz is a poet whose words are forged in the fires of adversity and resilience. Born, Guadalupe Almaraz, above a Piggly Wiggly store in the small town of Hebbronville, Texas, she defied the odds to become the first in her family to earn a Doctor of Jurisprudence and to practice law.
A woman of fierce independence and formidable intellect, she has worn many titles: mother, attorney, survivor, writer, but none more defining than a woman who rises. She has been writing since she was a young girl; her words have long been her refuge, her resistance, and her way of making meaning out of life's harshest blows.
Her life has been marked by both triumph and unimaginable grief. She has survived the pain of profound loss, including the death of her beloved daughter, Nikki Claudette, and the heartbreak of betrayal after decades of marriage. And yet, she persevered, with grit shaped by hardship, and a heart softened by reflection.
Now returned to her roots in Hebbronville, Lupita serves as an Assistant County Attorney and has lovingly restored her casita into a haven of peace. It is from this place of solitude and renewal that her poetry emerges.
Someone is You is her second collection of poems, a tribute to the layered truth of womanhood, heartbreak, survival, and the sacred act of writing oneself whole. She pens poetry not just to remember, but to reclaim. She writes because someone is you.”
As her daughter, I struggled to write this because how do you sum up someone who contains multitudes? But what I know is this: my mother writes the truth, even when it hurts, and in doing so, she gives the rest of us permission to heal." Jinnelle V. Powell, PhD
